The Program:
§ In keeping with the Montessori philosophy, GT activities are designed to challenge and develop interests and allow choice in learning. Manipulatives are used as needed for students and many activities involve movement and games. Many of the activities are collaborative in nature which encourages sharing and assisting one another. As students explore different topics they are often inspired to make positive contributions which impact society and our environment and which ideally will stay with the students as they become life-long learners and leaders.
§ Logic and Reasoning activities develop thinking skills and provide problem solving experience and multiple paths to a solution or solutions. Students also work through a series of carefully designed algebra lessons that demonstrate in a concrete way the balancing of equations and finding a solution. Students become comfortable with variables at an early age and gain experience with real world mathematical situations.
§ Advanced vocabulary activities are designed to expose students to word part meanings that can be applied in reading and throughout life to determine meaning in many fields of study and interest. Reading and research activities develop inference skills and may address social-emotional needs of students as well as expose students to ethical issues in which multiple points of view can be explored.
